Chiller Description
A BERG line commercial cooling unit, modified to meet the requirements specified. The unit shall be designed to operate on sea shore site and on ship deck when subjected to the sea environmental conditions. The unit shall supply cold coolant – solution of Ethylene Glycol and distilled water – to a consumer located about 25 meters away from the cooling unit. The unit framework shall be strengthening to allow tying the unit to the deck with cables.

Coolant Type
The coolant shall be a solution - by weight – of 30% Ethylene-Glycol and 70% Distilled Water, with additive inhibitors, for use with bare Aluminum heat exchangers and Stainless Steel pipes and components.

The refrigerant used  is environment friendly substance type R-134a

Cooling Capacity
The total cooling capacity of the chiller shall be based on the following: Consumer heat load (70 kW) + ambient heat load + solar radiation heat load +internal heat load generated by the pumps.

Flow Rate
A nominal flow rate of 50 gpm @ pressure of 115+/-5 psid @ temperature of 18C Working pressure The external working pressure required is 115+/-5 psid nominal, measured between the Chiller outlet and inlet.

The chiller will operate satisfactory – without any performance degradation - while exposed to the following environmental conditions:

Sea Condition

The chiller will sustain sea conditions as defined by Sea Category 4 Standard, without any performance degradation
or damage including ship Pitch, Yow and Roll movements up to 15 degrees and shock levels up to 1.5 g

Proof and Burst pressure
The chiller and its components shall be designed to withstand a proof and burst pressures of 200 psig and 300 psig respectively (Reservoir is an exception).

Water Hammer
The water hammer or hydraulic shock caused by pump start up or shut down or by sudden closing or opening of a valve shall not be higher 150 PSIG @ 0.35 Sec. Contractor shall take all the required measurements to eliminate this phenomenon.

Coolant Temperature Design Point
The chiller shall be designed to supply the required amount of coolant at 180C while the ambient temperature will be 40C. However, the chiller will have sufficient spare to supply the coolant at no more then 22C while the ambient will be 50C.

Coolant Temperature Adjustment
The chiller will have the option of adjusting the coolant supply temperature at the range of 15C up to 28C. This function allows the operator to operate above the prevailed dew point.

Chiller Structure
The chiller structure shall be made from hot dipped galvanized steel, suitably painted for corrosion protection. The unit upper side shall be equipped with four devices that will be used for tie-down and/or handling devices. Side panels protected from corrosion by galvanizing and painting shall be equipped with louvers and quick release fasteners.
